The East Cobb-based non-profit Together With Families held a back-to-school celebration Saturday to kick off a new school year.

As we noted previously, the organization recently opened what it calls its KinRise community youth leadership and wellness hub on Sandy Plains Road, servicing teens experiencing poverty and other issues.

“More than backpacks were handed. Families found encouragement. Children found joy. Neighbors became community,” Together with Families’ Sarah Donegan said.

“With backpacks, school supplies, free health screenings, driver’s education, bike giveaways, food, games and dozens of volunteers, the event helped families start the school year feeling supported and connected.

“Thank you to every sponsor, volunteer, partner and donor who made the day possible. When a community shows up for families, everyone is stronger.”

The backpacks included school supplies and families enjoyed food and refreshments, music, games and a community celebration.
