Eastside Church has been granted another delay in its rezoning request to build a senior-living facility on its campus on Lower Roswell Road.
The Cobb Zoning Division said that the case that was to have gone before the Cobb Board of Commissioners on Tuesday has been continued to Oct. 20.
Kevin Moore, an attorney for the church, informed the Cobb Zoning Division on Tuesday that his clients want the additional time “in response to community requests and comments” at the Cobb Planning Commission hearing earlier this month.
He said Eastside “is proceeding to revise the overall Site Plan and design parameters” but he did not elaborate.
The Planning Commission last week voted 4-0 to recommend denial of a proposal to build The Haven, a 103-unit assisted and independent senior-living facility that has faced strong community opposition.
The complaints included density, traffic, stormwater and Planning Commission member Deborah Dance, in her motion to deny, called it “not a fit” for the neighborhood.
Eastside Church is surrounded by Red Oak Park and other smaller, older homes. The church got a delay to September to conduct a traffic study with the start of the school year, but Moore didn’t produce it at the Planning Commission hearing.
Dance and Cobb Commissioner JoAnn Birrell held a community meeting in late August that drew around 70 residents, most of whom spoke out against the project.
