Great Southeast Pollinator Census takes place Friday

Submitted information:McFarlane Nature Park preps for Great SE Pollinator Census

What’s buzzing in Cobb County? On August 21 and 22, you can help find out!

The Great Southeast Pollinator Census, a University of Georgia citizen-science project, invites people of all ages to spend just 15 minutes counting pollinators. You don’t need to be a scientist or an insect expert. With a simple identification guide, you’ll count the insects visiting a flowering plant and record what you see. Your observations become part of a growing regional database that helps researchers and communities better understand and protect our pollinators.

And you can participate with Master Gardeners right here in Cobb County!

On August 21, join us at the Wright Environmental Education Center or the North Marietta Neighborhood Community Garden. Then, on August 22, you can participate at either the Cobb County Extension Office Living Classroom Garden or Green Meadows Preserve.

Last year, Georgians submitted more than 13,000 pollinator counts, contributing to one of the largest regional citizen-science projects focused on pollinators.

So grab your family, bring a friend, and spend 15 minutes discovering the fascinating world of bees, butterflies, flies, wasps, and other garden visitors. Every count matters—and every person who participates helps Cobb grow together!

Grab your family, friends, or fellow gardeners and come count with us! Every observation helps Cobb grow together.
