Earlier this week we published a story about a cleanup project at the Marietta National Cemetery to honor the memory of those lost in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.
That will culminate a week of events in Cobb County to mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11, starting on Saturday.
Cobb County government compiled the following information with the highlights, details and links if you’re interested in attending:
- Saturday, Sept. 5 – Patriot Day Memorial Stair Climb at Truist Park. First responders from the United Kingdom and Ireland will join the 9 a.m. climb to honor the legacy of the FDNY 343. Open to the community. https://bit.ly/4qiyhLJ
- Sunday, Sept. 6 – Memorial Stair Climb with Marietta Fire, 9 a.m. start, at Marietta Fire Station 51. Participants will climb 110 stories. Open to the community. https://bit.ly/3TdARqd
- Friday, Sept. 11 – Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park will hold a memorial service at 7:55 a.m. A Field of Flags display at the park will remain up until Sept. 19. https://bit.ly/4h6CQ8R
- Friday, Sept. 11 – Smyrna Public Safety Foundation 9/11 Commemoration. A public ceremony will begin at 8 a.m. at Smyrna City Hall. At 9:05 a.m., local first responders will take part in a memorial run through downtown Smyrna. A nearby flag display will remain in place through Sunday, Sept. 13. https://bit.ly/4gKXzO2
- Friday, Sept. 11 – Austell 9/11 Commemoration program, 8:15 a.m. at the Threadmill Complex, 5000 Austell-Powder Springs Road, Austell.
