The demolition of the old East Cobb Middle School campus on Holt Road is essentially complete.

The buildings have been torn down; what remains now is to haul off the rubble, twisted metal and other debris to make room for the relocated campus of Eastvalley Elementary School.

East Cobb Junior High School opened in 1963, two years before Wheeler High School across the street, then was renamed East Cobb Middle School in the 1970s.

The aging facilities continued to serve students until 2018, when ECMS moved to Terrell Mill Road, next to a relocated Brumby Elementary School.

The Cobb County School District recently released renderings of the new Eastvalley, with a construction contract expected to be approved and work to begin on the new campus in 2022.

The new Eastvalley is projected to open to students for the 2023-24 school year.

  1. Well it’s a sad time, I think.

Yes, I know change is an ever remaining constant in this world.

But Atlanta and outlying communities have been FAR too aggressive about demolishing irreplaceable pieces of history.

I attended East Cobb Middle School from August 1978-June 1981. MOST of my life’s associates and friendships all were initiated there…. INCLUDING my life long career. Many highly notable people and personalities also came from those hallways at ECMS.

To me- some things really OUGHT TO BE preserved. That place COULD HAVE been turned into a really nice community center. How many 60 year old school complexes are left in Georgia anyway? Especially with such a rich history as EAST COBB MIDDLE SCHOOL!!!

Sorry to see East Cobb go out like this. Poor decision making, in my opinion.

I am grateful to have been afforded a section time to be a student at this FINE school!
