
With beautiful weather in store all weekend, there’s plenty going on—most of it outdoors—in and around East Cobb. The highlights, from our calendar listings:
It’s an especially big weekend for garden lovers, as the Cobb Master Gardeners 26th Annual Plant Sale and Expo takes place Friday and Saturday at Jim Miller Park (2245 Callaway Road).
There are activities for all ages, with plants homegrown by the Master Gardeners, a Kids Corner and more. Hours are 10-4 and admission and parking are free.
Running alongside that event at Jim Miller Park from 10-4 Saturday is the Cobb Arts Festival, which features a wide range of handmade goods, artwork, and creative treasures, food trucks, live performances and and interactive arts experiences for kids.
As with the plant sale, admission and parking are free.
If you’re doing some spring cleaning, the Pope Band Recycling Day on Saturday the place to bring by household items that they can take in (list here with accepted items and fees). The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Northeast Cobb YMCA (3010 Johnson Ferry Road).
Kitten season is here, and the volunteers at Good Mews will be holding a Kitten Shower from 11-1 Saturday to teach how to care for kittens. It’s free at the Wellstar East Cobb Health Park (3747 Roswell Road), and you’re asked to sign up here.
Is there a hole in your favorite shirt, but you don’t know how to fix it? Stitched Gifts and Parkaire Landing Shopping Center are holding a free session on Saturday, Wear It, Fix It! A Clothing Repair Clinic, at the East Cobb Library (4880 Lower Roswell Road). You’ll learn the basics of sewing and repair skills. There will be repair supplies and repair guides on hand. No alterations will be performed. The event is free and no registration is required.
For those who like to dabble in color, Paint Like Bob Ross is an introduction to the techniques of an art master with a certified instructor. The class is from 4-6 Saturday at the Peachtree Art Center (2601 Sandy Plains Road), and all age groups are welcome. The cost is $45 a person and all materials will be supplied.
Sunday is the return of live concerts at East Cobb Park (3322 Roswell Road) and this spring’s concert series features the familiar Loose Shoes Duo, who will play popular blues and rock favorites from 3-5 at the concert shell. It’s free and you’re invited to bring blankets/chairs and food to enjoy.
