UPDATED, Tuesday, March 27, 11 A.M.: Cobb Police said this morning the motorcyclist in Monday’s Johnson Ferry Road accident has died. He has been identified as Alexander Seidnitzer, age 18, of East Cobb.

Police said Seidnitzer was traveling southbound on Johnson Ferry Road on a gray 2015 Yamaha FZ07 motorcycle when it collided with a lawn service truck at the intersection of Lake Rill Court.

The truck, driven by Joshua Peavy, 27, of Smyrna, was attempting to turn left from Lake Rill Court onto Johnson Ferry Road northbound when the accident occurred, police said.

Seidnitzer died after being transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, according to police, who said Peavy was not injured.

Police said they do not anticipate filing charges in the accident, which is still under investigation.

Family members said Seidnitzer was aiming to be a chef and attend culinary school (see comments below).

UPDATED, 1:50 P.M. Monday

Officer Wayne Delk of the Cobb County Police Department said a motorcyclist collided with a landscaping truck at the intersection of Johnson Ferry Road and Lake Rill Court late Monday morning.

The motorcyclist, who was not identified, was taken by ambulance from the accident scene with life-threatening injuries, Delk said. The accident occurred shortly before 10 a.m.

All northbound lanes of Johnson Ferry Road were closed between Roswell Road and Bishop Lake Road while the accident was being investigated, according to police, and only one southbound lane of Johnson Ferry was open during that time. All traffic lanes reopened around 1:40 p.m., Cobb Police said.

Delk said initial information from the accident scene indicates that the motorcyclist may be at fault.

We have received photos from a reader, including above, who was caught in the traffic jam, and who also told us this:

” . . . really sad, it was a young person on the blue motorcycle and the man driving the Arbornomics truck was so distraught and crying by the side of the road.”

We’ve also received dashcam footage from Mohamad Zakaria, who was traveling southbound on Johnson Ferry when the motorcyclist zoomed past him. Zakaria, who was heading to classes at Georgia Perimeter College, was traveling around 45 mph, the posted local speed limit.

ORIGINAL POST, 11:49 A.M. Monday

Cobb DOT is asking motorists to consider an alternative to using Johnson Ferry Road at Lake Rill Court, just north of Roswell Road, due to an accident that’s causing heavy delays.

The accident is affecting traffic in both north and southbound lanes, but that’s all the information that’s available for now.

UPDATED, 1:14 P.M.: Johnson Ferry Road traffic at that intersection is shut down until at least 2 p.m.

Lake Rill Court is the entrance to a neighborhood on the same side of Johnson Ferry as the Sunrise at East Cobb senior living facility, and just a little north of it.

We’ll update this story when we get more information.

    • Would you please close the ability to leave any comments. This is really hurting my family. I don’t need to hear from people that my son was reckless. He has passed on and I would only like to remember the good times. Please I am begging you to close this!!!!

  2. The speed limit was 45mph. By the footage I assume that kid was going at least 75mph. At speeds like that, with curves and and views being obstructed by trees in the center median, this was bound to happen with people trying to cross lanes. That’s why we have speed limits. I don’t see any reasonable prosecutor charging the Arbonomics driver. There is another video on youtube that show a good view of the accident. It seems completely feasible that that is exactly what happened. As for the “The family member”, young people never think about consequences. The driver of the truck is a victim too and blaming him for this tragedy will not bring that kid back. Speaking of negative comments, the mention of charging the truck driver with vehicular manslaughter is absurd after viewing the footage.

    • Maybe you should keep your comments to yourself. Did you not think “that kid” has family members. He was my son and your post does nothing but hurt us. There’s a thing called grieving. No one from his immediate family members plan on doing anything. It was an accident. I hope you never have to live life with having burying your child.

  3. Alex
My condolences to the family of the motorcyclists my heart goes out to the family we were at the seen seconds after it happened and we got help to him ASAP we flagged down a passing by ambulance then the police and fire trucks showed up.

Just to make things clear the truck had stop sign and the motorcycle had the right of way when the motorcyclists saw the truck driver he thought that he might be able to pass him from the front unfortunately the truck did not see the motorcycle and proceeded to cross the intersection. I will say that human error accursed on both parties and the duck drive could not have got out the way, after the crash the truck driver was out there besides the motorcyclists begging God for him not to die. So lets learn from this and let’s give asu h support as we can and anytime you see a tragedy happen don’t be afraid to help.

    Thank you.

  4. Also the truck pulled out in front on him, so there’s that!! Thanks have a nice day!! He should be charged with vehicular manslaughter!

  5. This is my family member & we are devastated by his loss, please DO NOT disrespect him!! His life was lost today and we are grieving his loss. He was a great kid, he was looking forward to becoming a chef as he attended culinary school, he had the biggest heart and a smile that lite the room up, we are going to miss him dearly, so please keep your negative comments for yourself!!
    Sincerely,
    A grieving family member

  6. Hey sweetheart learn how to look at an accident scene. Too bad the arbor nomics truck didn’t pull out in front of a bus of kids maybe he would be at fault. If he doesn’t pull out in front of the cyclist an 18 year old life is still thriving to become a restauranteur

    • Agreed, people need to pay attention, but if your on a bike you need to realize people will kill you in a car so drive more defensively.

  7. I am sooooooo thankful that someone caught him on camera driving like a maniac. Thank God he didn’t hurt anyone else. I’m TIRED of seeing people driving like this around here!!!!!

    • Just to let you know that was my son and has passed away at only 18 years old, maybe you should think before you post negative comments.

      • My deepest condolences! I am heart broken for you and your family. I am a mother of a son who rides bicycles and has been hit by cars twice already.
I am terrified every time he goes out to ride. I am sure your son was a wonderful boy and deeply loved. I pray God will help you in your grief and loss.

    • The fact that you have the audacity to even post this is just mind blowing. Did you even think of what happened to him. Or what his family is now going through. You have some nerve even posting that comment when you probably have screwed up while driving. You owe an apology and if you don’t it shows your true character. @AnnCamp

    • Same here Ann! I have no patience for irresponsible driving. I was there right after the accident and saw the mangled mess. Heartbreaking. Thank you for your post.

      • Marissa if you agree with Ann that my son deserved to die because he was young and on a motorcycle I pray that God forgives you and does not judge you!

        • Cindy I am so sorry for people like this. She has no right to speak on this matter. She’s completely out of line and honestly just a waist of time. We all know Alex was a very experienced rider, and all of us that know him. Know for a fact this isn’t his fault. He wasn’t driving wreckless. He may have passed a car going slow on a completely traffic free road a few miles back, but there’s no way he would have sped through that area with Roswell Rd approaching. That truck pulled out right in front of him, and he tried to avoid it. It’s on the driver. I’m so sorry for your loss. The Keeling family is always here for you. In loving memory, Alex Seidnitzer. The coolest cat you’d ever meet!
