Robert Hardy, 64, was pronounced dead on Sunday after being rushed to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, according to a statement by Cobb Sheriff’s Office spokeman Hassan Glenn.

Glenn said that Hardy was found in a state of cardiac arrest on Friday and medical aid was rendered before he was hospitalized and placed on a ventilator.

“Despite life-saving measures, Hardy did not have a viable path to recovery; his family made the difficult decision to end his care,” Glenn said in the statement.

Hardy had been at the jail since June 11 on charges of first-degree arson, driving over a fire hose, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended license.

Glenn said the Cobb Sheriff’s Office is conducting an internal review into Hardy’s death to confirm that all protocols were followed.”
He said the Cobb County Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.
