Cobb Police said Monday that a man who jumped into Noonday Creek to try to swim across it has been found dead.
Sgt. Eric Smith said Otoniel Cruz, 31, of Woodstock, was found dead Monday morning after a search by police, Cobb Fire and the Cobb Sheriff’s Office.
Smith said that Cruz had been reported missing, and officers first responded at Noonday Park (550 Shallowford Road) shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday.
An extensive search included using thermal imaging equipment, drones and other resources, according to police, who said that Cruz was “swept away by the current and failed to resurface.”
Smith said that an investigation is continuing and Cruz’ next of kin has been notified.
