A Powder Springs man spent the night Monday in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center after being arrested as an impaired driver near Sprayberry High School.
Cobb Police Sgt. Eric Smith said that officers responded to reports of a driver who “appeared to be unresponsive in a black Honda Ridgeline” at the intersection of Sandy Plains Road and East Piedmont Road Monday afternoon.
School traffic was lighter than usual because Monday was a “digital learning day” in the Cobb County School District.
But “out of an abundance of caution, officers positioned their patrol vehicles such that the vehicle was boxed-in to prevent the driver from accelerating and becoming a danger to the motoring public once the officers awoke him” said Smith, who added that the man was taken into custody.
He didn’t say how long the truck had been parked in the intersection.
According to Cobb Sheriff’s Office records, the man was identified as Michael Eddington, who was charged with misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of multiple substances and impeding the flow of traffic.
His booking report said Eddington was released Tuesday morning after posting a $1,620 bond.
The information was released to the media via the Cobb Police press distribution list after a media member passing the scene inquired with the department’s public information office about what was going on, and hit the “reply all” button.
