It’s work, just like any work is, because there have been plenty of trying times that put that theory to the test.
After more than four decades of doing the news, however, I can say that I still love the work immensely—because it is work—but above all because of the community I do this for.

On this Labor Day holiday weekend, I’m going to try to take a couple days off, recharge, and get ready for a busy fall and holiday season.
Our reader traffic continues to rise—in August we had more than 150,000 pageviews, which represents close to our COVID-era highs—and we have more than 9,400 newsletter subscribers.
I founded East Cobb News without a paywall to invite the community not only to keep up with what’s going on, but to take part in this community-building effort built around daily local news. There are skeptics in the journalism profession who think these sorts of these can’t be done.
