Physician John Cowan is leading Rod Adkerson handily Tuesday in the 11th Congressional District Republican primary runoff.
That’s the Congressional District that includes of most of East Cobb, and where Republican U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk is retiring.
According to results compiled by the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office, Cowan has more than 65 percent of the vote, with according to partial returns.
Adkerson had been Loudermilk’s chief of staff in a district that includes Bartow, Cherokee and parts of Dawson and Gordon counties.
If the results hold up, Cowan will face Chris Harden, a Democrat, in November.
In other partial returns Tuesday, health business executive Rick Jackson is leading Lt. Gov. Burt Jones for the Republican nomination for Georgia governor.
Jackson, who has spent more than $100 million of his own money, is leading with 55 percent of the vote against Jones, who had the endorsement of President Donald Trump and belatedly, outgoing Gov. Brian Kemp.
In the Republican U.S. Senate runoff, U.S. Rep. Mike Collins is leading former football coach Derek Dooley, also with 55 percent of the vote counted thus far.
Collins was endorsed by Trump; Dooley, the son of former UGA football coach Vince Dooley, is backed by Kemp.
