Two students have been arrested for bringing a gun to Wheeler High School, Principal Sara Fetterman said in a message that went out to the school community Friday morning.
Her message said that “everyone is safe” after an investigation by Wheeler administrators and the Cobb County School District Police Department led to the arrests on Thursday afternoon.
“Law enforcement agencies informed me that they are in custody and are facing criminal charges,” said Fetterman, who said she couldn’t provide more details due to a continuing investigation and for student privacy reasons.
East Cobb News has contacted the Cobb school district seeking more information.
Fetterman said the Wheeler community also is mourning the death of another student but she did not elaborate.
As for the gun charges, Fetterman said that “I cannot say this forcefully enough: We have many tools and officers at Wheeler, including gunpowder-detecting dogs. If a student brings a weapon to our campus, they will be caught. They will also face the harshest possible penalties that the law allows.
“A mistake like this could ruin the rest of your life. Don’t do it.”
Fetterman closed her message by saying that “our leadership team will continue to keep doing everything we can to make sure Wheeler is a safe place for everyone.”
