Mountain View Aquatic Center to close for renovations

Mountain View Aquatic Center to close for renovations

Starting July 1, the Mountain View Aquatic Center (2650 Gordy Parkway) will be closed for three months for scheduled renovations.

The work includes resurfacing pools and painting work and is part of $4.5 million in improvements to Cobb PARKS facilities in the 2022 Cobb SPLOST (Special-Purpose Local-Option Sales Tax).

Related projects include renovations at the Cobb County Central Aquatic Center in Marietta, which is reopening July 1 after three months of renovations. The West Cobb Aquatic Center in Powder Springs also reopened in April after renovations.

The scheduled reopening for the Mountain View Aquatic Center is Oct. 1.

  1. It’s one thing to question a decision in parks and rec but it does seem a bit deranged to bring the school system into it. All of the people who made this decision work for the county council.

    • Michael, perhaps you should read my comment again. I was not suggesting that the School Board owns responsibility for this bizarre decision, merely comparing it to actions they have been responsible for in the past. Think: fifty million dollars for a convocation center approved without public notification or input, just because Leader Rashdale says we need one. Imagine the benefits for our students if that fifty million dollars was invested in our schools and teachers, rather than a monolith we can certainly do without.
By the way, rather than critiquing my comment, why not comment on the issue at hand, closing a swim facility when it is nearly 100 degrees outside and our kids are out on the streets? Did you notice that the county’s other swim facilities have been renovated in time to be reopened for the summer? Might there be a bit of political maneuvering at play here, given the ongoing conflict over the district election maps, another bureaucratic embarrassment?

  2. How absolutely incredibly stupid to schedule this shutdown just as Summer begins, the kids are out of school, and instead of having an enjoyable and safe place to spend their time, they will be out on the streets. If I didn’t know better I would think this was the work of the clowns on our School Board and dear leader Ragshead, but here the mostly anonymous bureaucrats, clerks, and couriers who run Cobb own this bizarre mess.
