Kol Emeth Rabbi Emeritus Steven Lebow will lead a service to commemorate the 109th anniversary of the lynching of Leo Frank, a Jew, amid a fervor of early 20th century anti-Semitisim.
Frank, a pencil factory manager in Atlanta, was taken by a lynch mob from a Georgia prison, where he was serving a sentence for the killing of Mary Phagan, a 13-year-old girl from Marietta.
Frank was hanged from a tree near what is now Roswell Road and Frey’s Gin Road on Aug. 17, 1915. A memorial marker was placed near the site in 2018.
Frank was posthumously pardoned in 1986 but Lebow is continuing with efforts to have him exonerated.
