Freeze advisories issued for Cobb through Wednesday

Cobb freeze warning

Bundle up tonight and the next few nights as temperatures dip at or below freezing.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a freeze warning for Cobb and metro Atlanta from 11 p.m. Monday to 11 a.m. Tuesday, and a freeze watch from 11 p.m. Tuesday to 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Forecast lows in the Cobb area could drop to the high 20s Monday and Tuesday, and although it’ll be sunny during the day, highs will be only in the low to mid-50s.

A cold front is sweeping across the Deep South at the start of the week.

Temperatures are expected to be around freezing Wednesday night after highs in the high 60s.

MUST Ministries is opening its winter weather shelter (1297 Bells Ferry Road) Monday-Wednesday for men, women and children, with the doors closing by 8 p.m.

They will be fed dinner and a hot breakfast.

Warmer weather is in store for later in the week, although rain is forecast on Thursday, with highs near 70.

The weekend also will be colder, with lows near freezing and highs in the 50s Saturday and Sunday.

Freeze warning issued for Cobb as cooler weather moves in

Cobb freeze warning, East Cobb Park

It was sunny and just around 60 degrees Tuesday afternoon at East Cobb Park when we stopped by for a little break, but with bristling winds that are going to make the next couple of nights seem colder than what’s in the forecast.

The National Weather Service in Atlanta has issued a freeze warning for Cobb County and much of North Georgia from midnight to 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Temperatures will be dipping to just around the freezing mark tonight and overnight, with winds gusting as much as 20 mph in some places.

A freeze warning means plants and pets should be brought in from the cold, and to prevent bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped or allowed to drip slowly. In-ground sprinkler systems also should be wrapped or brought inside.

The winds will be calming down after that and dry, sunny weather will resume for the rest of the week.

Wednesday and Thursday will be much like Tuesday, sunny and in the high 50s to near 60 during the day, and into the 30s at night.

Weekend weather will be warmer, with sunny skies and high temperatures Friday-Saturday-Sunday in the high 60s and near 70, and evening temperatures falling into the 40s and low 50s.

Freeze warning in Cobb Friday; sunny, warmer for the weekend

Cobb freeze warning

Thursday night’s pouring rain is the start of some erratic weather over the next few days, starting with a freeze warning in Cobb and metro Atlanta tonight.

It’s partly sunny on Friday morning, and will be for most of the day, with high temperatures reaching the mid 50s.

But if you’re headed outdoors tonight, especially to football games, bundle up: Lows are forecast to dip to around 40 by mid-evening, and into the mid 30s overnight.

The freeze warning issued by the National Weather Service begins at midnight and extends until 10 a.m. Saturday. The weekend is expected to be sunny, but colder than it’s been this week, with highs on Saturday in the mid 50s and back to warmer weather Sunday, with highs in the mide 60s.

Lows also will be colder, in the mid 30s Saturday night and around 40 on Sunday night.

Monday’s high also will be in the mid 60s, but rainy, much colder weather will be coming in after that. On Tuesday, it’s supposed to be very wet and only in the mid 40s, with lows in the high 20s. Sunny skies return Wednesday, but with highs also in the mid 40s and below-freezing lows.

The rest of next week will get only a little bit warmer than that.

If it’s early March, you may have plants already blooming (my dogwood tree, above), and this often means one other thing: It’s still winter. There’s a freeze warning out tonight through Tuesday morning for Cobb County and much of north Georgia, as temperatures are expected to dip into the 20s.

The National Weather Service has issued the freeze warning from 8 p.m. Monday through 11 a.m. Tuesday for 35 counties in metro Atlanta and northwest Georgia, including Cobb.

Temperatures stayed in the 30s today, and they’re expected to reach as low as the mid-20s overnight.

Thursday will be sunny and warmer, into the mid 50s, but below freezing again on Wednesday night, in the high 20s.

Rain revisits Cobb with warmer temperatures over the weekend and highs in the 60s, extending into the start of next week.

Freeze warning Thursday night for Cobb, North Georgia

Cobb freeze warning

Our dreary weather week has a new twist tonight: A freeze warning that includes Cobb and north Georgia.

The National Weather Service in Atlanta issued the warning from 11 p.m. Thursday through 8 a.m. Friday.

The watch area is on a line north from West Point to Macon to Louisville.

The freeze warning comes as most of the metro Atlanta area and north Georgia has been enduring heavy rains this week that came with flood and flash flood watches and warnings.

The rain had largely stopped by Thursday afternoon but roads are still wet, with some minor flooding and tree and other debris.

Temperatures also have dropped into the mid-30s and tonight’s low could fall into the high 20s.

There could be some patchy black ice on roads where residual water freezes over.

Friday could see the return of the sun, with clear skies forecast and high temperatures in the low 50s.

The weekend is expected to be the same, with sunny days and highs reaching into the 60s through Monday.

UPDATED, 7:50 P.M.

The Cobb County School District issued this message a short while ago:

We are aware of low temperatures tonight leading to possible ice on the roads in the morning. We are currently working with the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) to monitor the weather, looking for any impacts on school operations. If necessary, an update will be provided in the morning should there be any delays or closures. Remember it’s going to be cold tomorrow, make sure to bundle up. Stay warm!
